Agreement
These terms are an agreement between you and Karthikeyan Karuppaiah, the developer and publisher of Rupis (“Rupis”, “we”, “us”). By installing or using the Rupis app, you agree to these terms and to our privacy policy. If you do not agree, please don’t use Rupis.
What Rupis is — and isn’t
Rupis is a personal finance tracker. It helps you record UPI and other payments, organise them with labels and rules, set budgets and view reports, all on your device.
- Rupis is not a bank, payment system, payment aggregator or UPI app. It does not hold, send or receive money, and it is not a party to any payment.
- Rupis is not financial, tax or investment advice. Automatic categorisation, imports, reports and budgets are best-effort tools based on the data on your device, and may be incomplete or wrong. Always check important figures against your bank statements.
- Payment features are available only where UPI is supported. Some features depend on your device, platform and app edition.
Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority where you live, and able to enter into a binding agreement to use Rupis.
Licence
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use Rupis on devices you own or control, for your own non-commercial use, in line with these terms and the rules of the store you got it from. Rupis, its name, logo, design and content belong to us or our licensors. Open-source components are licensed under their own terms, listed in the app.
Your data & backups
The information you record in Rupis is yours. Because it is stored only on your device, you are responsible for keeping it safe:
- Losing, resetting or replacing your device, clearing the app’s storage or uninstalling Rupis deletes your data unless you have a backup.
- Backups are encrypted with your password. We never receive it and cannot recover a forgotten password or a lost backup.
- Store backup files somewhere safe, and keep your device and app lock secure.
Payments made through UPI
When you start a payment in Rupis, it opens the UPI app you choose. That app, your bank and the UPI network carry out the payment under their own terms. Before you approve a payment, confirm the payee, amount and details in your UPI app.
- Rupis records the result your UPI app reports. If a payment is pending, failed or disputed, your UPI app and bank have the final record and handle refunds, reversals and complaints.
- Limits and warnings shown in Rupis are guidance only; your bank and the UPI network enforce actual limits.
- We are not responsible for payments made, failed or delayed by your UPI app, bank or the UPI network.
Rupis PRO
Rupis is free to use. Rupis PRO unlocks extra features and removes ads. The current PRO features are listed in the app.
Subscriptions
- Monthly, quarterly and yearly subscriptions are sold and billed by Google Play or the App Store, at the price and taxes shown by the store before you buy.
- Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period until you cancel. Cancel at least 24 hours before renewal in your store account (Google Play: Payments & subscriptions; iPhone: Settings → your name → Subscriptions). PRO stays active until the end of the period you paid for.
- If a price changes, the store will tell you beforehand as its rules require.
Free trial
You can start a one-time, 7-day PRO trial from Settings → Subscription. It needs no payment details and does not turn into a paid subscription; when it ends, Rupis returns to the free version. It can be used once, and restoring a backup keeps the “already used” state.
Lifetime PRO and credit packs
- Lifetime PRO is a one-time purchase that unlocks PRO for as long as we offer Rupis on your platform.
- Credit packs add a set number of credits that eligible PRO actions use, as described in the app. Credits have no cash value, cannot be transferred or exchanged, and are used up when spent. Restoring a backup does not restore spent credits.
Devices, restores and refunds
- PRO is active on one installation at a time. You can move it to a new device from the app (Move PRO to this device), and use Restore purchases with the store account you bought with.
- To keep purchases fair, Rupis verifies them with the store and the Rupis billing service. Purchases that are refunded, revoked or can’t be verified may lose PRO access.
- Refunds are handled by Google Play or Apple under their refund policies. For Google Play purchases, you can also contact us and we will review your request in good faith. Nothing in these terms limits any refund rights you have under applicable law.
If a PRO feature is changed or retired, we will try to replace it with something of similar value or let paying users know in advance.
Ads
The free version shows ads from Google AdMob. We don’t endorse advertised products, and your dealings with advertisers are between you and them. PRO removes ads.
Acceptable use
Please don’t:
- use Rupis for anything unlawful, fraudulent or to record transactions you have no right to process;
- bypass, disable or interfere with purchases, licence checks, app integrity checks or security features;
- copy, resell, redistribute or publish modified versions of Rupis, except as allowed by law or open-source licences;
- attempt to overload, attack or gain unauthorised access to Rupis services.
Third-party services
Rupis works with services we don’t control, including UPI apps, banks, Google Play, the App Store, Google AdMob and Firebase. Their terms and privacy policies apply to your use of them, and we are not responsible for them.
Changes & availability
We improve Rupis regularly, so features may be added, changed or removed. We aim to keep Rupis reliable but cannot promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that online services such as purchase verification will always be available.
Disclaimer
Rupis is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. You use Rupis at your own discretion and risk.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, or for loss of data, profits or money, arising from your use of Rupis. This includes missed, incorrect or duplicated records, lost backups, forgotten passwords and payments handled by third parties. Our total liability for any claim relating to Rupis is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us for Rupis PRO in the 12 months before the claim and ₹1,000. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law.
Ending these terms
You can stop using Rupis at any time by uninstalling it; remember to cancel any subscription in your store account. We may suspend or end your access to PRO or online services if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms. Sections that by their nature should continue after these terms end will continue.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of India. Please contact us first so we can try to resolve any concern informally. Any dispute that cannot be resolved this way will be subject to the jurisdiction of the competent courts in India, without affecting any mandatory consumer protections where you live.
If you got Rupis from the App Store
These terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for Rupis or its content, and has no obligation to provide maintenance or support. If Rupis fails to meet an applicable warranty, you may notify Apple to refund the purchase price, if any; to the extent the law allows, Apple has no other warranty obligation. Apple is not responsible for any claims relating to Rupis, including product liability, legal or regulatory compliance, consumer protection or intellectual property claims. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you. You confirm you are not in a country subject to a US government embargo and are not on any US government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as Rupis changes or the law requires. We will update the date at the top and, for significant changes, tell you in the app. Continuing to use Rupis after changes take effect means you accept them.
